Roll up, Roll up, señores and señoritas, it’s time for the biggest show in East and Central Africa-
THE 15TH ZIFF FESTIVAL OF THE DHOW COUNTRIES HAS THE PLEASURE OF WELCOMING FOR OUR CHIEF GUEST
MARIO VAN PEEBLES – FILM MAKER, ACTIVIST
“Being a filmmaker is like having a really big megaphone,” jokes Van Peebles “When you can wake folks up a little in a positive way, do it.”
 Mario Van Peebles is currently probably the most prominent African-American film director.
In addition to coming to join African and diaspora filmmakers at ZIFF Van Peebles will also be presenting his latest film, the dynamic  We the Party at ZIFF 2012 and in Dar es Salaam for commercial distribution.   
Just recently Van Peebles handed a copy of his film to US President Barack Obama at a special event for the  president’s viewing on Airforce One.
With his other films including Ali (2001),  New Jack City (1991) Baaadassss (2003) and Posse (1993),  Van Peebles has directed 27 films and acted in 87 in Hollywood. He has won a string of Awards and many nominations for his ouvre.
In addition to the Golden Globe nominated Boss, Van Peebles has directorial credits for other award-winning television shows such as Damages and Lost.
A graduate of Columbia University with a B.A. in Economics and recipient of an honorary doctorate from Hofstra University, Van Peebles worked for two years for New York’s Department of Environmental Protection before moving to Hollywood to act, write, and direct.
Van Peebles directed and produced Panther, teaming up with his maverick filmmaking father, Melvin Van Peebles, who also wrote the script. Panther is the story of the Black Panther Party’s rise to power. The film became a political classic, stirring up controversy and winning awards that included the Locarno Film Festival’s Silver Leopard award.

This year we shall have only two worshops during ZIFF.
HD CINEMATOGRAPHY to be led by the world famous Barry Braverman for the second year running.
FILM AND SOUND EDITING- is to be led by Nicholas Stampe, Film Editor Extraordinnaire from Germany.
EACH workshop will only take 12 participants.
The total cost of Workshops is Tsh 120,000.
