Multichoice WELCOMes TBC1 TO THE DStv BOUQUET in TanZANIA

23 May 2008

As part of an ongoing pan-African exercise to deliver public broadcasting channels though their pay-tv service, MultiChoice Africa today announced that Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation’s TBC1 has been added to the list of more than 50 channels on the continent’s leading satellite television service, DStv.

TBC1 will launch on DStv on the 23rd May 2008 at 00:00 CAT. The launch will enable viewers in areas of Tanzania where the terrestrial signal is limited to access the channel with a higher quality reception resulting in a much clearer picture. As with other national broadcasters, TBC will be available only to viewers in its home country, Tanzania.

“The launch is the result of many months of discussions between MultiChoice and TBC, and follows the inclusion of other free-to-air broadcasting services to local DStv bouquets. There has been very positive feedback from our subscribers in various African countries following the launch of free-to-air channels on the pay-tv bouquets, which enables subscribers to enjoy superior viewing quality”, said Harry Pratt, MultiChoice Africa Business Development Manager.

“MultiChoice Africa wishes to enhance DStv’s international status by affording as many African public broadcasters as possible the chance to air on the DStv bouquet. This supports MultiChoice Africa’s commitment to the African continent and to providing local content to viewers, promoting local talent and building strong relationships with local broadcasters.”

Tido Mhando, Director General TBC, highlighted that “The launch of TBC on the DStv platform represents our commitment to take national broadcasting services into the digital era. Though this agreement with MultiChoice Africa, we will improve quality for all viewers across the country, ensuring they are able to obtain world class viewing quality on both pay- and free-to-view television services.”

The DStv bouquet includes a wide range of programming content from sources across the world, including news, sport, educational programming, movies, documentaries, light entertainment and music.

MultiChoice Tanzania General Manager, Peter Fauel welcomed the latest addition to the DStv offering. He said “I am delighted that TBC will now be included in the DStv offering, ensuring the channel remains at the forefront of the digital revolution and is delivered at the highest quality to consumers”.
